The Program

Opening Plenary

Inspiring Community Action for A Better Quality of Life

Houston Mayor Annise Parker (pictured top) knows that good jobs and safe neighborhoods are critical to raising families. She knows about the personal and political challenges and barriers to achieving leadership. Mayor Parker will talk about her own experience in inspiring community action and provide a vision for leadership. NASW/TX President Pat Gleason Wynn (pictured bottom) will share her recent experiences and insights on answering the call to action. Social workers are the ideal in answering the call for action in the community and guiding individuals into organizing. But what about when the “community” is your own profession?

Closing Plenary

Advancing the Profession: Inspiring Social Workers

The closing plenary will provide attendees with a “State of the Chapter” to bring you up to date with NASW/Texas challenges and accomplishments. An update on the Social Work Reinvestment Initiative, the social work profession, and a call to action for our profession.

Come join more than 1,000 of your social work colleagues at the fabulous Galleria in Houston! This year’s conference will include the following tracks:

• Behavioral & Mental Health

• Health/Medical
• Child, Family & Schools • Professional/Career
• Community • Social Work Education

You have the opportunity to expand your skills through targeted training in Beck Depression Inventories, Mediation, and Family Violence Training for Adoption & Custody Work, and that always important topic... ethics! This year we will again be providing licensing review courses for the LBSW and LMSW exams.

Our exhibit hall will provide you with the opportunity to meet with vendors who provide services to your clients or hire social workers. Whether you work in an agency or in independent practice you will benefit from knowing the resources and opportunities available in our state.

You will receive a complimentary brunch on Friday, complimentary networking lunch on Saturday, and the NASW/Texas Board of Directors will host a complimentary reception on Saturday to honor our annual social work award winners. You’ll then be ready to head out on the town for dinner with your colleagues!

Continuing Education

Our conference program continues our commitment to providing high quality, affordable continuing education programs that meet social work licensing renewal requirements.

Up to 18 hours of continuing education credit will be available with great offerings for improving your skills and opportunities.

Workshop presenters must register for the conference to obtain CEU credit or to attend other sessions.

This program has been approved for Social Workers in TX, NM, LA, AR and OK. It has also been approved for Texas Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. Hours for LCDCs are also approved through TAADAC. Guardianship Hours pending approval.

“Meeting of the Profession”

The NASW Texas Conference is truly the meeting of the profession. This year, we are pleased to have presentations by NASW Assurance Trust, the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners, Texas Association of Social Work Deans and Directors, and Texas Field Educators Consortium -- and you will be able to network with over 1,000 Social Workers!
