The Program

Opening Plenary
Inspiring Community Action for A Better Quality of Life
Houston Mayor Annise Parker (pictured top) knows that good jobs and safe neighborhoods are critical to raising families. She knows about the personal and political challenges and barriers to achieving leadership. Mayor Parker will talk about her own experience in inspiring community action and provide a vision for leadership. NASW/TX President Pat Gleason Wynn (pictured bottom) will share her recent experiences and insights on answering the call to action. Social workers are the ideal in answering the call for action in the community and guiding individuals into organizing. But what about when the “community” is your own profession?

Closing Plenary
Advancing the Profession: Inspiring Social Workers
The closing plenary will provide attendees with a “State of the Chapter” to bring you up to date with NASW/Texas challenges and accomplishments. An update on the Social Work Reinvestment Initiative, the social work profession, and a call to action for our profession.
