Terminology historically used by practitioners with families going through divorce has promoted divisive, litigious and authoritative perspectives. Often, the reconstituted family has been conceptualized as dysfunctional, damaged, and broken. This presentation promotes alternative views based upon the strengths perspective and the use of language that encourages positive collaboration between co-parents.
